UQ and PACE Partners

UQ & the PACE Partners

The University of Queensland
The University of Queensland is one of Australia's premier learning and research institutions.

UQ is a founding member of the national Group of Eight, an alliance of research-intensive prestigious ‘sandstone’ universities committed to ensuring that Australia has higher education institutions which are genuinely world-class.
The University’s commercialisation performance places it in the top 10 percent of universities worldwide, including significant success in the commercialisation of health and medical discoveries.

UQ’s School of Pharmacy will relocate to PACE to become the only School in the nation to be co-located with industry in a purpose-built precinct.

Unparalleled Track Record
The University of Queensland is one of Australia’s top three universities, for start-up companies, income generated from licences to industry, and the number of commercialisation staff working through organisations like UniQuest.

Uniquest is one of UQ’s commercialisation arms and is a national leader in this field.
Through PACE, UQ can actively help industry to establish collaborative relationships with its embedded research teams across the Princess Alexandra Hospital,  Diamantina Institute, Translational Research Institute, the Institute of Molecular Bioscience and the University’s other high performing research centres.

Queensland Government

Queensland Government
The Pharmacy Australia Centre of Excellence is a leading example of the Queensland Government's Smart State Strategy in action. In this context, PACE is an important contributor to the ongoing planning and development of the Princess Alexandra Hospital Science and Education Precinct and the associated 109 Central concept embracing the PAH and three other proximate, complementary science precincts.

The State Government's investment in PACE, through the provision of land, will provide a vital return on investment for Queenslanders in the form of new drugs and drug therapies, and new, improved health services, all designed to improve human health.

It will also strengthen the State's knowledge and skills base through leadership in training the pharmacists of the future and stronger research partnerships, thereby enabling it to be at forefront in addressing global as well local pharmacy-related challenges.

UQ School of Pharmacy
The UQ School of Pharmacy is internationally-recognised for its research strength in areas such as:

  • Quality Use of Medicines (improving how medicines are selected and used in the community, safely and cost-effectively)
  • Therapeutic Targeting (drug discovery and dosage form design)
  • Modelling and Simulation (using special expertise to create and analyse experiments and clinical studies).

The School has extensive commercial experience, shown through its successful collaborations, including the formation of TetraQ - a facility for pre-clinical drug development which interacts with major and developing pharmaceutical companies to assist bringing products to market, and also with companies such as Alchemia, QPharm, Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline and others.

UQ’s School of Pharmacy already has existing collaborations with industry partners, such as ongoing collaborations on clinical trial design with Pfizer. This will be furthered through relocation to PACE, where clinical interactions will be greatly enabled by the close proximity of the School to the major Princess Alexandra teaching hospital.

UQ also has existing strong partnerships with both State and Commonwealth governments, including the School of Pharmacy hosting the national Quality Use of Medicines map (www.qummap.net.au). These collaborations will be enhanced by the opportunities provided within the PACE precinct.
